Half-day introductory workshop on Generative AI in education

24 July 2025
09:30 - 12:30 GMT+2
Venue: Green Room, CILT Office, Level 7, PD Hahn Building Upper Campus
Bring your laptop and join the CILT team for an intensive in-person 3-hour hands-on introductory workshop on Generative AI in education.
This session offers a condensed version of our three-workshop series on AI literacies for staff (which will be offered later in July and August) for those who want a ‘crash course'.
Starting with a guided introduction to using some of the most common GenAI tools, we focus on the various ethical concerns in educational contexts. Together we’ll look critically at the impacts on teaching and learning, and explore socially just and equitable approaches for the future of GenAI use in higher education.
During the workshop you will have opportunities to practice prompting, including guided tasks on prompt priming, using prompt frameworks and prompt refining. These activities aim to help you critically and practically engage with GenAI tools and understand their applications in your professional context.
In this interactive in-person session you’ll share your experiences, current challenges and concerns regarding ethical GenAI use with colleagues. To participate, you’ll need your laptop and a willingness to start experimenting with some of the tools for yourself.
The workshops have been developed alongside the self paced AI literacies interactive guide on Amathuba for staff which you may find useful to engage with before the session.
