The use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in teaching and learning has become widespread and while it offers many benefits, there are various ethical concerns regarding its use in these educational contexts. It is worthwhile to consider socially just and equitable approaches for the future of GenAI use in higher education.

This workshop, which builds on the content you have engaged with in Modules 2 and 3 of the AI literacies interactive guide for staff on Amathuba, offers the opportunity to consider these issues in the context of your own practice. Similarly to workshop 1, this workshop will operate like a ‘flipped classroom’ model with the Amathuba Modules 2 and 3 material providing the pre-reading or lecture content that you’ll need to jump into the activities. Please engage with the content before attending this workshop.

In this interactive session you are encouraged to share your experiences, current challenges and concerns regarding ethical GenAI use with colleagues and work together to think about socially just approaches going forward. We hope this will offer a productive space to engage with these complex issues, so please come ready to share and discuss.
