About This Workshop

As the use of student data becomes increasingly important for both operational needs and research purposes at UCT, this workshop aims to address the critical ethical considerations that should guide our practices. We will explore the draft ethics framework developed by the DASS, practical frameworks and guidelines for ensuring that student data is collected, processed, and utilized in ways that respect privacy, consent, and dignity.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is designed for:

  • Graduate students who are or who are intending to extract and analyse UCT student data as part of their dissertation (including staff who are also students)
  • Staff who currently work with, or intend to work with student data for:
    • Operational purposes
    • Decision making purposes
    • Internal research purposes (not for publication)

Workshop Format

The session will include presentations on UCT's ethical guidelines, interactive discussions on case studies, and practical exercises to help participants navigate ethical dilemmas when working with student data.
