Staff Student Partnerships
Presenter: Associate Professor Daniela Gachago and Esai Reddy
Exploring Student-Staff Partnerships for Socially Just Curriculum Design.
What does it look like when students and staff co-create curriculum as genuine partners? Drawing on work collaboratively published by the presenters and others on student-staff partnerships (SSPs), including the cross-institutional Designing for Social Justice Partnership (DSJP) running across UCT, CPUT and UWC, this 60-minute session moves beyond the rhetoric of "student voice" to ask honestly what makes these collaborations work, where they get stuck, and why they matter for transforming higher education in our context.
You'll hear directly from students and staff about navigating power dynamics and building relational trust and leave with the five partnership principles emerging from this work, as well as at least one practical entry point for trying a partnership approach in your own course, whatever your discipline.
