Dr Ncediwe Mdlulwa
Dr Ncediwe Mdlulwa is a Lecturer in the Academic Staff Development cluster at the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT) at the University of Cape Town. She teaches on the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Technology and contributes to a range of short courses offered through the School of Education and CILT.
Her work focuses on the integration of artificial intelligence and innovative approaches in higher education teaching and learning, with particular attention to perspectives and contexts emerging from the Global South. Her recent research has explored the effectiveness of AI in postgraduate supervision practices and the policy implications of AI use in South African higher education. She is also engaged in research on AI-generated content and academic authenticity, as well as the use of AI-driven solutions to strengthen youth employability interventions in South Africa.
Dr Mdlulwa convenes the Project Management in Learning Design short course and co-convenes the Designing with AI short course at UCT. She also supervises Master’s students within the Educational Technology programme. Furthermore, she also facilitates webinars and workshops such ason topics related to teaching with AI tools, including accessible material and suitable technologies to enhance digitally enabled learning and teaching environments.
She holds a PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Johannesburg and also holds qualifications in Disability Studies, Psychology, and Industrial and Organisational Psychology from UCT. Her work is driven by a commitment to strengthening equitable and future-oriented teaching and learning practices through thoughtful and contextually responsive uses of AI in higher education.
