Janet Small

Janet leads the Learning Design team within the Course Curriculum Design (CCD) cluster at CILT. She supports the development of new courses and works with academic staff to enhance the design of their teaching and learning offerings across different modes of delivery.

Her work includes contributing to the development and ongoing refinement of AI literacies training for staff and students, as well as supporting the UCT MOOCs portfolio through course review, updates and advisory input on new projects.

Janet has over 20 years of experience in course design and development at UCT, working across short courses, recognition of prior learning (RPL), MOOCs and postgraduate online programmes. She has developed and facilitated workshops and learning materials focused on blended and online learning, inclusive design, and AI literacies. She holds postgraduate qualifications in Adult Education and has a strong interest in lifelong learning, widening access to education, open and flexible learning (including microcredentials), and the role of artificial intelligence in education.
