Dr Jade Smith

Dr Jade Smith has seven years of experience in blended and online education, as well as five years in contact teaching in high school, TVET, and university environments. Before joining CILT, Jade was a lecturer in communication, where the COVID-19 pandemic led her to adapt her module’s resources and assessments for an online classroom. In 2024, this innovative curriculum design earned her an Institutional Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at the Durban University of Technology (DUT).

Jade’s interest in learning design is rooted in her drive to streamline online teaching and learning environments to improve efficiency and accessibility for students and lecturers. Jade holds a PhD in Linguistics and Applied Language Studies from Rhodes University and has published her research in local and international journals.
