The OER UCT project, funded by the Shuttleworth Foundation, was an implementation and advocacy initiative which provided support to academics engaged in the production of OER, particularly as relates to content licensing and curation. The project was instrumental in surfacing a nascent network of open “champions” and highlighting the authentic desire of academics at UCT to share the products of their work, in both teaching and research contexts.
One of the primary outputs of the OER UCT project was the development of the Open Content portal, a platform designed to profile existing resources and direct users to OER produced at UCT which were hosted on various institutional websites, archives and repository spaces.
