Ilyaas Combrink

Learning Platforms Support Consultant

Ilyaas Combrink is a Learning Platforms Support Consultant at CILT. In his role, he provides frontline user support, efficiently addressing queries from both staff and students via the CILT helpdesk. His expertise allows him to offer technical solutions and assistance for various learning technology tools, including Amathuba, Vula, and other platforms supported by UCT. His expertise in educational technology and learning management systems stems from his prior experience as a Learning Technologist at the UCT Online High School.

Ilyaas pursued his academic journey focusing on English and History during his BA undergraduate degree. In 2020, he successfully completed his Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with a specialization in these subjects at Stellenbosch University. Continuing his academic pursuits, he earned his BA Honours in Historical Studies from UCT in 2022. Notably, he was honoured as the recipient of the History Access scholarship, and his thesis centred on the underrepresentation of precolonial history in FET phase textbooks and emphasized the need for improved vernacular sources to stimulate critical engagement and discussion among learners.

Recently, Ilyaas had the privilege of being selected as part of the inaugural student cohort to complete the Foundation Phase in Design Thinking Programme at the HPI d-school building on middle campus, furthering his commitment to personal and professional growth. He adopts the problem-solving approaches he learnt during this course daily when on the CILT Helpdesk, assisting users with friendliness, empathy and collaboration.

Beyond his professional endeavours, Ilyaas enjoys reading, listening to podcasts and following Formula 1.
