Associate Professor Janice McMillan
Associate Professor Janice McMillan joined UCT in 1994, first in the Department of Adult Education, and since 2000, she has been in various roles and units in the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHED). From 2010 – mid-2019, she was the Director of the UCT Global Citizenship: leading for social justice programme. From 2010-2014, she was also seconded as the service-learning coordinator for Stanford University's Bing overseas study programme in Cape Town. From 2017 to mid 2022, Janice worked at the institutional level at UCT as Social Responsiveness (SR) Co-ordinator. This involved reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor for (SR) and the development of SR strategy through chairing several task teams from 2017-2021. Since late 2020, Janice is also involved in work on ‘decentring whiteness’ as a contribution towards UCT’s dismantling institutional racism strategy. This work resulted in a podcast series ‘The White Elephant in the Room’ on the Spotify platform. Since September 2022, Janice has been at the Hasso Plattner d-school Afrika at UCT as the Head: Learning and Discovery Lab.
