Glenda Cox
Dr Glenda Cox is an associate professor in the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT) at the University of Cape Town and her portfolio includes teaching on Post Graduate courses (Higher Education Studies and Masters in Educational Technology, Post Graduate diploma in Blended and Online Learning design), supervision, teaching innovation grants,and staff development. Her main research, implementation and advocacy role centres on Open education including Open education Resources (OER) at UCT.
She holds the UNESCO chair in Open Education and Social Justice (2025-2029) and is a member of the UNITWIN network on Open Education (2024-2028). She is a Vice President of the Board of the Open Education Global organisation. She is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Students as Partners (joined in 2022).
She completed her PhD in Education (2016) and her research focused on using the theoretical approach of Critical Realism to explain why academic staff choose to contribute or not to contribute their teaching resources as open educational resources.
She is passionate about the role of Open Education in the changing world of Higher Education. Dr Glenda Cox is currently leading the Digital Open Textbooks for Development (DOT4D) initiative.
