Course Development Manager

Janet leads the Learning Designers in the Course and Curriculum Design Cluster who are responsible for course development as well as support for staff to enhance the design of their learning and teaching offerings. She supports new course development projects and collaborates with colleagues to develop, update and research AI literacies training materials for staff and students. She supports the UCTMOOCs portfolio which involves monitoring and updating existing courses and advising about new course projects.

Janet offers advice on designing courses in different modes of learning – from in-person, online and blended. 

She has worked in course design and development for 20 years at UCT – ranging from short courses, recognition of prior learning (RPL) and massive open online courses (MOOCs) to postgraduate online degrees. Janet has developed  and run workshops and learning materials for staff and students related to blended and online learning, designing for equity, accessibility and inclusion and AI literacies. She has postgraduate qualifications  in Adult Education and her passion is to promote opportunities for lifelong learning and widening access to educational opportunities. She has ongoing research interests in open, flexible learning (including microcredentials), as well as inclusive design and artificial intelligence in education.
